To mark national Crime Stoppers Day (18 August 2026), Crime Stoppers ACT is supporting the launch of a new national campaign encouraging younger Australians to protect what matters most to them by safely and anonymously sharing what they’ve noticed.
The campaign, developed specifically for Australians aged 18–39, is informed by independent national research commissioned by Crime Stoppers Australia. The findings show younger Australians are paying attention to what’s happening around them, but many still don’t realise they can share information anonymously.
The research found almost one in five Australians aged 18–39 (19%) had either previously contacted Crime Stoppers (13%) or had considered doing so (6%). It also revealed younger people are less likely to understand how Crime Stoppers works, including the fact that they don’t need proof and can remain anonymous.
Encouragingly, simple explanations about the Crime Stoppers service significantly increased confidence and willingness to report.
Crime Stoppers ACT Chair, Oliver Forrester, said the findings challenge assumptions about younger people being disengaged from community safety.
“Young Canberrans care deeply about their friends, their communities and the places that matter to them. Many are already thinking about how they can make a positive difference,” Mr Forrester said.
“Our job is making sure they know they can safely and anonymously share what they’ve noticed;
without putting themselves at risk, and without having all the answers.”
Mr Forrester said the campaign reflects Crime Stoppers’ commitment to evolving alongside younger Australians.
“Young people connect and communicate differently. This campaign meets them where they are: online, on social platforms, and through digital storytelling that feels relevant and authentic.”
The national campaign uses gaming-inspired creative and digital-first content to help younger Australians understand how Crime Stoppers works and how their information can help prevent and solve crime.
