Floriade Community applications open

Eligible community groups and organisations may apply now to participate in Floriade Community, which expands the flower festival’s signature blooms beyond Commonwealth Park and into Canberra’s suburbs and town centres, Chief Minister Andrew Barr announced today.

“Floriade Community has quickly become a much-loved part of this major event, fostering local creativity, innovation, participation, and recognition of the wonderful work our community groups do,” Mr Barr said.

“It also helps to stimulate the local economy by driving business to nearby cafés, shops, and other businesses.”

The Floriade Community program will provide bulbs and annuals to successful applicants to plant and maintain in their local area.

Locations must be visible to many Canberrans, and cover at least 10 sqm, with a planting density of 40 bulbs per sqm. This can include garden beds, pots, or wheelbarrows at local shops, churches, or community centres.

Last year, Floriade Community distributed 300,000 bulbs and annuals to more than 100 community groups throughout Canberra. This included 150,000 bulbs and 150,000 annuals.

Floriade Community will complement the spectacular floral displays in Commonwealth Park.

Last year, 427,768 people attended Floriade, and the festival generated $51.9 million.

Applications for Floriade Community must be submitted by Sunday 2 April.
