Canberra United awards night
American import Kaleigh Kurtz took was named Canberra Unitedโs 2019/20 Player of the Year at the clubโs award night on Thursday 27 February. Leena Khamis was named Playersโ Player while Simone Charley was awarded Supportersโ Player of the Year. Hayley Taylor-Young received the Rising Star award. Awards were also presented to Unitedโs Y-League team, with Michael Piccolo named Player of the Year and Lachlan Griffiths Playersโ Player. Jackson Tippett received the 2019/20 Volunteer of the Year award.

Bronze for Hart
ACT cyclist Nathan Hart was part of the team that claimed bronze in the team sprint at the 2020 UCI Track World Championships in Berlin, Germany.
Brave new role
The CBR Brave will enter the 2020 AIHL season with a new head coach after it was announced Australiaโs Womenโs Ice Hockey Coach Stuart Philps will take over the position.
Highlanders return
Canberra Region Rugby League has introduced a returning team to the George Tooke Shield competition, with the Gordon Highlanders set to play the 2020 season. The Highlanders previously played in the George Tooke Shield for five seasons, from 2008 to 2013. The Highlanders will be based in Goulburn, NSW.
Facility upgrade
Bungendoreโs Mick Sherd Oval has received an upgrade thanks to a $350,000 investment from the NSW Governmentโs Stronger Country Communities Fund. The new facility boasts two change rooms, with six showers in total, four new toilets, two strapping rooms and an all-abilities bathroom.
Alliance for Sport Recovery
The Australian Olympic Committee, Paralympics Australia and Commonwealth Games Australia have joined forces with The Australian Sports Foundation to form the Alliance for Sport Recovery. The goal of the Alliance is to raise crucial funds to help get people back on the playing field in communities devastated by the countryโs recent bushfires by assisting with practical and essential items such as equipment, uniforms and even memberships to sporting clubs for those families who have been financially impacted.
