Drink and drug driving see young men arrested in separate ACT cases

Two young men, both aged 20, face multiple charges related to driving offences, including drink and drug driving, following separate incidents in the ACT.

Around 10:30am on Saturday, 28 December, police responded to reports of a disturbance in Monash. Officers allege a provisional license holder arrived at a residence on a black Suzuki motorcycle, performed a burnout on the driveway, and became involved in a physical altercation with a male resident.

The man and his female passenger left the scene but were located and arrested shortly afterward. Police discovered the motorcycle was unregistered, unroadworthy, and carrying stolen registration plates. It also had covered indicators and was leaking fuel.

A breath analysis test allegedly revealed the man’s blood alcohol concentration to be 0.116. He was charged with driving under the influence, operating an unsafe vehicle, and failing to display provisional plates.

In an unrelated incident early Sunday morning, 29 December, police arrested another 20-year-old man after a high-speed pursuit involving a stolen vehicle.

Around 12:45am, the New South Wales Police Force alerted ACT Policing to a white Skoda Kodiaq seen speeding near the ACT border. ACT officers spotted the vehicle on the Monaro Highway near Hume and directed the driver to stop.

The driver allegedly ignored police, swerving into oncoming traffic and reaching speeds exceeding 180km/h in a 100km/h zone. The pursuit ended in Monash, where the driver and a female passenger were arrested.

Police charged the man, who was already subject to bail conditions, with multiple offences, including driving under the influence of a drug, failing to stop for police, aggravated dangerous driving, and using a vehicle without consent.
