Earlier kick-off times, daytime rugby and traditional derbies headline the Brumbies 2020 Super Rugby fixture.
The Brumbies start their season with a clash against the Reds at GIO Stadium on Friday 31 January, one of a trio of home fixtures for the new campaign. The Brumbies will also take on the Rebels and Waratahs at home, along with New Zealand sides the Highlanders and Hurricanes, the Jaguares from Argentina, the Stormers from South Africa and the Sunwolves from Japan.
Barring any participation in finals football, the Sunwolves will play their final ever Super Rugby match at GIO Stadium in Canberra on Friday 29 May.
In a move that will surely appeal to families, matches on Friday and Saturday evenings have been brought forward by half-an-hour with kick-off times now taking place at 7.15pm, rather than the usual 7.45pm. Brumbies memberships are now on sale.
In other club news, Brumbies Academy product Issak Fines has returned to the club signing a deal for the 2020 Super Rugby season. Experienced lock Cadeyrn Neville and prop forward Shambeckler Vui have also signed for 2020; rugby league talent Solomone Kata has signed on a three-year contract, while Nic White is set to return to the club on a two year deal.
White’s agreement with Rugby Australia and the Brumbies will see him finish out his stay at English club Exeter Chiefs, being available for the Wallabies in 2020, and coming back to Super Rugby action with the Brumbies for the 2021 season.
Folau Fainga’a has also signed an early extension to his Brumbies and Rugby Australia contract that will see him play his rugby with the ACT-based club and be available for the Wallabies until the end of 2022.
Pre-season action: The Brumbies will continue their Super Rugby preparations when they travel to Albury to take on the Rebels in a pair of back-to-back trial matches at Greenfield Park. These fixtures will be the sole trial matches for the forthcoming campaign. The trial matches are on Thursday 23 January with kick off at 3.45pm and 6.15pm.
