Chris Bosevski from Melbourne gave CD journalist Lillian Altman and photographer Jordan Mirchevski a ride in his 1000 horsepower red 1987 VC Turbo Calais
Driving along the cruise route of Summernats, it’s noisy and smoky. You get to see where people who are taking part in the event are camping, and many spectators raise their hands to encourage the drivers to do a burnout.
Mr Bosevski bought his Holden Turbo Calais two and a half decades ago.
โI bought it in 2000 and drove it for two years before blowing the engine,” he said.
Afte that, โpretty much everything was replacedโ.
He has been attending Summernats for many years.
โI came here for a while then took a break because of the children and have come back the last four years,โ Mr Bosevski said.
โI like to come and relax for two days beforehand because this can be full on.
โThe drive from Melbourne tires you out.โ
He said one of the best parts about Summernats was the diverse range of cars on show.
โThe more you years you come the more you see the cars changing.
Mr Bosevski said he takes the car to weddings and drives it around with his children every weekend.
โI do a lot of car shows with it in Adelaide and Canberra. I try to support it as much as I can โ the car scene,โ he said.
โI like to teach the children you can do whatever you want, instead of going out and causing trouble and spending money on alcohol and drugs.
โYou can always achieve something when you put your mind to it.โ
Mr Bosevski competes in events around the country including drag and dyno, as well as a displaying it at shows.
He also has a 1974 Mazda RX3 he got when he was 16.
โI wanted to finish it before my mum died on January 1 2024,โ Mr Bosevski said.
โWhen I finish it, Iโll engrave her name on it, Debbie.โ
