Man dies in Hackett crash, second ACT road fatality of 2023

A 44-year-old man has died in a single vehicle accident on Antill Street in Hackett early this morning in what is the ACT’s second road fatality of the year, ABC Policing reports.

About 2.45am, a VW Passat was being driven north on Antill Street, when the driver lost control for unknown reasons and the car collided with a tree, incurring considerable front-end damage, before coming to rest in the front yard of a nearby house. 

When first responders arrived at the scene, the driver – a 44-year-old man – was deceased. There were no other occupants of the vehicle. 

An enquiry into the circumstances surrounding the collision, including the owner of the vehicle, is underway. 

Police would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or who may have dash-cam footage of Antill Street in Watson or Hackett around the time of the incident. Similarly, any residents in the area with CCTV footage that captured the vehicle are urged to come forward.
