Two NBL games will be shown live on free-to-air television every Sunday as part of the revived league’s bolstered broadcast package.
After two stints, most recently from 2010-15, Network 10 will return as Australian basketball’s free-to-air home as part of a three-year deal worth a reported $45 million.
10 Peach and on-demand service 10 Play will televise games on Sunday, while all games will be shown live on Fox Sports’ Kayo streaming service as well as ESPN.
Network 10 replaces SBS as the NBL’s free-to-air partner hot on the heels of the Boomers’ historic bronze-medal performance in Tokyo.
The NBL has been on an unstable financial footing at various times throughout its history with more than a dozen clubs falling by the wayside since the league began in 1979.
NBL owner and executive chairman Larry Kestelman described the new media deal as a financial “game-changer” for the NBL with the current 10 clubs to benefit from a revenue-sharing agreement with the league.
The line-up includes the newest franchise Tasmania JackJumpers, who will debut in the 2021/22 season.
“This season is shaping up as one of the best yet, notwithstanding the challenges ahead,” NBL owner and executive chairman Larry Kestelman said.
“These new media deals have established the NBL as a tier-one sport in Australia and we can’t wait to keep growing the game of basketball.”
