New footage to assist investigation into February hit and run death of Jyle Molloy

ACT Policing has released new information and dash-cam footage in the hope the public can assist with the investigation into the death of pedestrian Jyle Molloy in February.

About 11.00pm on Sunday 27 February 2022, 28-year-old Jyle was struck and killed by a vehicle on Pialligo Avenue heading towards Queanbeyan.

Today, police are able to confirm Jyle was picked up by a dark coloured sedan while he was on Morshead Drive sometime before 11.00pm, and have released dash-cam footage from another vehicle showing this.

Soon after, Jyle exited this vehicle and was walking on Pialligo Avenue when he was struck and killed.

A review of CCTV footage also identified a white Toyota 4WD in the area at this time.

Police are calling on the driver or any occupants of the dark coloured sedan to come forward.

It is likely that the people in that car would have been the last people to see Jyle alive. Police believe they can assist with the circumstances relating to Jyle entering and leaving their vehicle.

Police are also asking Canberrans to consider anyone who was visiting Canberra that night that may have been driving on this road. The Red Hot Summer Tour concert had finished earlier in the evening and interstate visitors may have been leaving Canberra via Pialligo Avenue at this time.

Senior Constable Will Stevenson from the Major Collision Team said that there are people in the community that can assist.

“Police are confident that people have information that could assist the investigation and in turn Jyle’s family,” Senior Constable Stevenson said.

“Someone could have seen something or heard something. Someone could still know something about the collision and for a variety of reasons they have not come forward. Today, we are asking you to do so.”

Jyle Molloy was a much loved son, brother and friend. His family have shared the following two statements:
