NSW COVID-19 hotspot attendees in ACT required to self-isolate

A new Public Health Direction coming into effect at midday today will legally require anyone in the ACT who has been in three COVID-19 hotspots identified by NSW Health to self-quarantine.

The locations in question currently are: the Crossroads Hotel in Casula – between Friday 3 July to Friday 10 July; Planet Fitness in Casula – between Saturday 4 July and Friday 10 July; and the Picton Hotel in Picton – on Saturday 4 July, Sunday 5 July, Thursday 9 July or Friday 10 July.

As at 15 July, 34 COVID-19 cases were linked to the Crossroads Hotel.

Anyone in the ACT who was at those NSW COVID-19 hotspot locations at those times will be required to quarantine for 14 days at their own expense, either at home, or at a hotel approved in writing by the Chief Health Officer, regardless of whether they have any symptoms.

They are also encouraged to get tested for COVID-19 – even if they have no symptoms.

Anyone affected by this Public Health Direction is required to inform ACT Health of their presence in the Territory as soon as possible through the COVID-19 Helpline on 6207 7244.

Anyone caught failing to comply with the Direction will face a fine of up to $8,000.

The move to self-isolate is directly in line with the advice being offered by NSW Health.

ACT residents are reminded not to travel to areas where COVID-19 outbreaks are occurring in NSW. This includes Liverpool and Campbelltown areas of Sydney more broadly, where these clusters of cases are located.

There have been no new active cases of COVID-19 in the ACT recorded in the past 24 hours, marking six days since the last case was recorded.

The number of negative tests in the ACT is now 39,545, with over 2,400 negative results coming back since Monday 13 July.

The new Public Health Direction is available on the ACT COVID19 website.
