A 17-year-old boy who was already on a good behaviour order allegedly stole cigarettesย and brandished a knife at a member of the public in Kippax last week.
At about 5pm on Friday 31 January, a masked male jumped the counter of a Kippax supermarket and stole a large quantity of cigarettes and tobaccoย before fleeing.
Police allege when a member of the public attempted to intervene, the boy pulled a large knife from his bag and threatened them.
Following an investigation, officers from the Proactive Intervention and Diversion Team executed a search warrant at the boyโs home this morning, Friday 7 February, where they discovered a knife, clothes matching the clothing worn by the offender and packetsย of cigarettes.
The teenager, who is currently subject to a good behaviour order forย other matters, was arrested a short time later in Coombs and has been charged with theft and possessing an offensive weapon with intent. He will face the ACT Childrens Court.
Police are asking the member of the public who confronted the boy as he fled the supermarket to come forward.
