130 Canberrans self-quarantine after Batemans Bay visit

An update to this story has been posted on 23 July.

More than 130 people are self-quarantining in Canberra, after attending the Batemans Bay Soldiers Club following a COVID-19 outbreak at the venue.

A Public Health Direction was issued on 20 July, which requires anyone who attended the venue on Monday 13 July and between Wednesday 15 July and Friday 17 July, to self-quarantine for 14 days.

There have been no confirmed cases in the ACT in the past 24 hours despite the outbreak.

ACT Chief Health Officer Dr Kerryn Coleman said it was important for residents to remain vigilant despite the lack of active cases.

“We are in a strong position in the ACT at the moment, but we all need to work together as a community to ensure it stays that way,” she said.

“The situation is rapidly evolving, so it is important any Canberrans who have been travelling in New South Wales recently to monitor the latest NSW Health Advice.

“Even for those people who have stayed in the ACT during this holiday period, I remind you to stay vigilant, practice physical distancing and good hygiene practices, and get tested if you have any symptoms.”

The total of cases in the ACT remains at 113, with only three active cases currently.

No one is currently being treated for the virus in Canberra hospitals and residents in the ACT have returned 43,965 negative tests.

A Public Health Direction remains in place for other identified hotspots in NSW, including Crossroads Hotel in Casula, Planet Fitness in Casula and Picton Hotel in Picton.

ACT residents who visited any of the locations on dates set out on the NSW Health Website, are required to self-quarantine for 14 days, even without symptoms.

Travel advice remains in place, advising ACT residents to avoid areas in NSW with COVID-19 outbreaks.
