16yo learner motorcyclist caught 48kmh over speed limit in Stirling

A 16-year-old learner motorcycle rider will have his licence suspended after ACT police caught him travelling almost 50km/h over the speed limit in Stirling last night.

About 9.10pm on Tuesday 13 September, members from Road Policing detected the ACT learner rider travelling at 108km/h in a posted 60km/h area on Namatjira Drive.

Police stopped the motorcycle, and on closer inspection noticed the rear tyre had a large flat skid pattern from previous excessive or ABS braking, and that the middle tread pattern of the tyre was below the minimum wear marks.

The rider was issued with two infringement notices – one for exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/hr ($1861 and six demerit points), and a $208 fine for using a motor vehicle not complying with standard tyres.

The rider was also issued a defect notice in relation to the bald tyre, and will face a licence suspension.
