19-year-old Kaleen man arrested over 19 commercial burglaries

A 19-year-old Kaleen man will face the ACT Magistrates Court today, Thursday 11 May, on 32 charges in relation to 19 commercial burglaries earlier this year.

He is now the fourth person charged in relation to these burglaries.

In January 2023, ACT Policing responded to a series of commercial burglaries in the Gungahlin region. Due to the similar nature of the incidents, police established the burglaries were linked.

Further enquiries also identified three additional burglary locations in Sutton, Bywong, and Gundaroo NSW that police believe were linked to the Gungahlin incidents.

An investigation was commenced, utilising resources from Operation TORIC, Gungahlin, Belconnen, and City police stations, as well as AFP Forensics and NSW Police.

This investigation identified the 19-year-old man as a suspect, and he was arrested by members of Operation TORIC about 11am yesterday, Wednesday 10 May, in Kaleen.

He will face a total of 32 charges – 19 counts of joint commission burglary, 12 counts of joint commission theft, and one charge of driving a stolen motor vehicle.

ACT Policing said they anticipate further charges in relation to the NSW burglaries, while three male juvenile offenders arrested previously during the investigation are also before the court facing the same range of charges.
