A 19-year-old man from the suburb of Ngunnawal will face charges of robbery and driving a motor vehicle without consent in court today, 15 November.Â
The man was arrested yesterday, 14 November, after he allegedly robbed another man of his car and other property including his watch and cash after arranging to meet via an online dating app in September this year. Â
Police recovered the car from a Ngunnawal address the day after it was stolen, and seized it for forensic examination.
Yesterday, police arrested the 19-year-old for breach of bail on other unrelated matters, and while he was in custody laid charges arising from the incident in September.
Police would like to remind anyone using online services, including dating or property sales apps, to act carefully when arranging meetings and to make sure the first meeting is in a safe place.
Anyone who has been the victim of similar incidents is urged to come forward.
Matters can be reported by calling 131444, attending a police station, or online for historical matters (more than 6 months old). Â
Anonymous reports can be made via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or on the Crime Stoppers ACT website.Â
