3 budget-friendly Valentine’s Day tips

From curating a hamper of your Valentine’s favourite supermarket buys to packing a romantic picnic, we have 3 affordable tips to celebrate love which won’t break the bank. If you are taking the budget-friendly route, it’s a good idea to communicate a reasonable budget with your Valentine beforehand so you’re on the same page. Expressing your love doesn’t have to be elaborate or expensive – it can be as simple as going for a walk and spending time together.

Pack a picnic

Why not make the most of summer by packing your favourite picnic-friendly refreshments and a rug, and heading to one of Canberra’s many picturesque outdoor spots for breakfast, lunch or dinner, and perhaps a fun game, like frisbee or quoits. If the weather doesn’t cooperate, just stay indoors and spread the rug on the floor, add a board game or a movie at home. You can still have a special day without the price tag.

Supermarket hamper

Show your loved one how well you know them by curating a hamper just for them that contains their favourite affordable treats from the supermarket. They might like fresh fruit and health foods, chocolate, savoury snacks, hair and grooming products, or gardening items. Theme it for extra fun – for example, if you’ve been together six years, you might buy six-packs or include six items [one for every year]; ‘spicy’ or ‘hot’ stuff; things that melt [your heart]; a colour theme, such as ‘you are my sunshine’ yellow.

Love coupons

A great way to add spark to any relationship, personalised love coupons make an excellent romantic gift for Valentine’s Day – or for no particular reason at all. Love coupons are about finding enjoyable things to do with each other and for each other – from one ‘free breakfast in bed’ or ‘uninterrupted afternoon nap’ to ‘a day at the beach’, ‘back massage’ or ‘control of the remote’. Express your love by being thoughtful and creative. Search online to find a swag of free printable love coupons or design your own.
