34yo Wright man on bail facing 11 driving, property charges

A 34-year-old Wright man on bail was arrested by ACT Policing yesterday in connection with multiple stolen cars and property offences conducted across several Canberra suburbs throughout June.

On the night of 1 June, a Garran residence was broken into and two vehicles were stolen.

Police will allege one of the vehicles was used in several offences in the following weeks, including thefts from parked vehicles broken into in Phillip on 19 and 26 June, and driving offences in several Canberra suburbs on 6, 10 and 20 June.

At some time after the theft, one of the vehicles, a Lexus RX450H, was fitted with stolen, non-matching number plates, on the front and rear of the vehicle. These plates were changed for other stolen, non-matching number plates on at least one other occasion.

About 8.55am yesterday, Wednesday 29 June, police seized the Lexus which was parked near the man’s residence in Wright. The man was arrested a short time later at his home.

Checks confirmed that the man’s licence was subjected to a court suspension on 3 June, and that the man had been granted bail for unrelated offences on 21 June.

The man will face the ACT Magistrates Court today, Thursday 30 June, on three counts of unlawful possession of stolen property, two counts of driving a motor vehicle without permission, two counts of number plate not properly issued, and single counts of damaging property, minor theft, driving while disqualified, and possession of property suspected of being the proceeds of crime.
