New ice sports facility proposal gets green light in ACT

Canberrans’ access to a new ice sports facility is a step closer after the ACT Government announced it will support a detailed proposal from the proponent.

The proposed Tuggeranong facility includes two ice rinks that comply with International Ice Hockey Federation standards and curling lanes.

Early this year, Cruachan Investments Pty Ltd (Cruachan) and its development partner Pelligra Holdings Pty Ltd (Pelligra) put forward a detailed proposal to design, construct, own, operate, and maintain the new facility, to be built on Rowland Rees Crescent in Greenway.

The ACT Government has signed a Heads of Agreement with Cruachan and Pelligra.

“This is a significant sporting infrastructure project for Canberra, and a joint announcement will be arranged in the coming weeks to provide further information regarding the project,” said Yvette Berry, ACT Minister for Sport and Recreation.

Stephen Campbell, Director of Cruachan, said he was pleased the ACT Government supported the proposal, and that he looked forward to working with the Government and ice sports on this project.

“The proposed facility will provide the ACT with world class infrastructure to grow ice sports at all levels,” Mr Campbell said.

“Building high quality sports facilities is an important part of our community goals,” Paul Pelligra, Director of Pelligra, said. ” The ACT Arena will set the benchmark for ice sports facilities and become the National Centre of Excellence.”

The new ice sports facility in Tuggeranong was a 2020 ACT Labor election commitment.
