$200,000 is available from the ACT Government for local community organisations to invest in new infrastructure, equipment and programs through the 2022-23 Community Support and Infrastructure (CSIG) Grant program.
Individual organisations can apply for up to $10,000 to assist in small scale upgrades to their premises and to improve their programs and services.
Rachel Stephen-Smith, ACT Minister for Families and Community Services, said local community organisations support Canberrans to live happy, healthy, and connected lives.
“These grants are an opportunity for organisations to invest in the infrastructure, equipment, and capability that they know will make a real difference to their organisation and the wider community.
“I encourage any community organisation with a great idea to apply.”
YWCA Canberra received a grant earlier this year to upgrade children’s playground equipment in the Currawong Early Learning Centre.
Doing so, chief operating officer Cara Jacobs said, supported inclusive health and wellbeing outcomes and engaged children in practical and active learning experiences in natural environments and settings. The upgrade also included an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culturally welcoming and inclusive space.
Other recipients purchased whitegoods and furniture to create a welcoming and accessible community hub; upgraded a staff kitchen; and trained staff to increase an organisation’s capacity for business, financial and management skills.
