Police seek witnesses to Rivett assaults

Did you see a woman attacked and robbed in Rivett last Saturday evening? ACT Policing want to know.

A woman was allegedly assaulted twice in Rivett on the night of Saturday 4 March.

About 7.45pm, a 30-year-old man allegedly assaulted a woman at a residence on Lomatia Place. The man allegedly also stole money.

A short time later, the man and woman left the residence. The man allegedly assaulted the woman again, near the Rivett Oval playground.

A member of the public – a man who was at the playground with his family – intervened, causing the alleged offender to run away.

The woman then sought assistance at a nearby aged care facility on Bangalay Crescent.

Police arrested the alleged offender at a shopping centre in Weston on Sunday afternoon.

The defendant appeared in court on Monday, charged with aggravated common assault and minor theft.

Police would like to speak to anyone who witnessed these assaults, specifically the man who intervened in the second assault, and anyone from the nearby aged care facility who witnessed the incident.

Anyone with information that could assist police is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or on the Crime Stoppers ACT website. Please quote reference 7368679.
