ACT designers Front/Centre
Two local designers have been selected as Front/Centre finalists at Denfair – a showcase of contemporary design to be held in Melbourne on 20-22 June. Daniel Margules uses his skills in woodwork and welding to produce furniture designs that are a meld of art and functionality. Many of the unique pieces are created from reclaimed materials. The ACT is also represented by Estelle Briedis, a surface designer and screen printer who specialises in creating original surface designs, exploring ideas of architectural geometry, the mathematical process of tessellation and the aesthetics of symmetry.

Winter warmer
The nights are getting cooler so it’s time to make sure your air conditioner is ready to keep you cosy and warm. Kyle Rafter, Fujitsu General Australia’s national product manager, provides tips on how to improve efficiency when heating the home with reverse cycle air conditioning:
- Keep the indoor and outdoor unit clean.
- Have the system serviced by a licensed technician.
- Use timers. Program the system to turn on to heat the room before waking and before returning home from work or school. This avoids operation at full power during peak times and lowers demand on the unit.
- Only heat the rooms being used. Keep doors and windows closed and for homes with ducted system, use zone control features to heat specific areas.
