Girls aged 12 and 13 charged with arson after destroying granny flat in ACT

Two girls will face the ACT Children’s Court today 21 March, charged with arson after a fire destroyed a granny flat.

About 8.15pm last night, Monday 20 March, the 12- and 13-year-old girls allegedly entered a one-bedroom flat at the front of the house where they lived and set fire to clothing belonging to the person residing in the flat.

An accelerant was used once the clothing was alight, and the fire spread within the granny flat, which was completely damaged by fire.

ACT Fire & Rescue firefighters extinguished the fire, and no person was injured during the incident.
