ACT police busy over Easter long weekend

Over the Easter long weekend, ACT Policing undertook a traffic targeting operation.

ACT Policing conducted approximately 2,500 random breath tests, and found five drivers to be above the legal limit. They conducted 22 roadside drug tests, and two drivers tested positive.

Police issued 320 traffic infringement notices for varying offences, including 117 for speeding and approximately 50 infringements for drivers operating an unregistered vehicle. 27 of these drivers were also issued infringements for operating an uninsured vehicle (Compulsory Third-Party insurance).

On Friday morning, ACT Policing assisted NSW Police Force at a two-vehicle collision near Murrumbateman on Friday morning where four people lost their lives.

On Saturday evening, police responded to a serious two-vehicle collision on Gungahlin Drive in Mitchell. Three people were taken to hospital, with one in a critical condition.

ACT Policing urge Canberrans to drive safely, adhere to the road rules, and to consider other road users while driving on Canberra’s roads.
