Kaleen man to face court after stash of stolen bikes recovered

A 27-year-old Kaleen man will face the ACT Magistrates Court today, 3 May, following the recovery of a stash of stolen bicycles.

On Sunday, 30 April 2023, police received a report that a secured bicycle had been stolen from the Cook shops about 3.05pm on Friday 28 April.

A review of CCTV footage allowed police to identify the alleged offender, who was arrested at a residence in Kaleen about 10.30am on Tuesday 2 May.

The man – who was the subject of two good behaviour orders – has been charged with one count of theft.

While at the location, police located a further 10 bikes which are also suspected to have been stolen. Enquiries are continuing to identify the owners of the stolen bikes, and further charges are expected.

Canberrans are reminded they can use the free online Bikelinc database to register details of their bike, including serial number, description and photos. This information can assist police in reuniting owners with their stolen bikes.

Bikelinc is a joint initiative with Crime Stoppers ACT, and is safe, secure and confidential. The searchable online database allows anyone to check if a bike is registered as safe, lost or stolen.
