Fire With Fire by Candice Fox
Bantam Australia, $32.99
When two determined parents take over a Los Angeles forensics centre, their ultimatum is simple, find their missing daughter within 24 hours or watch key evidence be destroyed. As the police besiege the centre, it falls to two unlikely partners, a hardened cop who just escaped a harrowing undercover operation and a rookie fired on her first day, to find the girl.
One of Australia’s best crime fiction authors returns with another gritty and compelling standalone thriller. Fast paced and intense, but with some real heart to it, Fire With Fire is a gripping read that proves very hard to put down.
The Isles of the Gods by Amie Kaufman
Allen & Unwin, $24.99

But when she runs into the spoiled Prince Leander, she and her ship are dragged into an adventure they never expected. This was a deeply enjoyable young adult fantasy novel from the always impressive Amie Kaufman. Featuring entertaining teenage characters, an elaborate new fantasy realm, and a ton of action, this is a brilliant novel for readers of all ages.
