One person’s trash can be another creature’s treasure this winter as some of our animal welfare services are in need of any unwanted bedding. If you have manchester lying around that you will never use or have been meaning to throw out, consider donating it to a local animal group to help provide a bit of warmth.
The ACT Government’s Domestic Animal Services is calling for bedding to help keep the animals staying with them warm. DAS is also accepting towels, pillows and cushions that aren’t too big, any pet toys that you might like to bring along, and unopened, in-date dog food. Donations can be made directly to the Mugga Lane shelter between 10am and 4pm on weekdays and between 10am and 2pm on Saturday.
Canberra Street Cat Alliance is in need of extra blankets. The team say that the scaredy cats will often rip blankets to shreds when they are on top of their crates and have had to throw a lot away. If you want to help the cats in their care, contact the team through the links on their website.

Wildcare in Queanbeyan are fine for winter essentials, however, they are already feeling the impacts of cool and dry weather, with more animals coming in after being hit by cars. To best help them protect our wildlife, they need more funds for care and rehabilitation; donations can be made through their website.
When donating bedding or soft furnishings, please ensure that they are clean and in reasonable condition. If you don’t have any unwanted winter warmers to donate but still want to help, organisations are always in need of monetary donations and volunteers willing to donate their time.
