O’Connor man arrested after being caught with improvised firearm

A 27-year-old O’Connor man who was subject to a good behaviour order will face the ACT Magistrates Court today 8 July after being found in possession of an improvised firearm.  

About 10.45pm on Friday 7 July, police on mobile patrol of City Walk, Canberra City, observed two men on bicycles not wearing helmets.  

Police attempted to speak to the men, however they fled, before police caught up with one of the men a short time later on Currong Street North, Braddon.  

Police formed the opinion the man was in possession of stolen property and conducted a search of the man’s backpack.  

This search revealed a black improvised firearm, which police immediately seized, as well as tools and other items, including a face mask, police suspect were to be used to commit further offences.  

The man was arrested and has been charged with unauthorised possession of a firearm, going equipped for theft, and breach of a good behaviour order.
