Malnourished animals rescued from home in Lyons

ACT Policing rescued two mistreated animals from a Lyons residence yesterday, 19 July.

Officers attending the residence entered the backyard, where they initially located a goat which had no shelter or water source.

Further investigations gave police reason to exercise their emergency powers to enter the home under the ACT Animal Welfare Act, where they located a malnourished 3-month-old puppy.

The officers were unable to see any evidence that the animals were being cared for, with no bowls for food or water, or dog food, found inside the residence.

ACT Domestic Animal Services attended and removed the animals from the residence.

Animal owners are reminded to ensure their pets are adequately cared for, including access to food, water and shelter.
