BarkFest
‘Paws’ what you’re doing and fetch your best fur-friend for the Social Dog Company’s BarkFest at QT Canberra’s back car park and deck area on Sunday 23 February 3-7pm. It’s a fun, fundraising dog day that features live entertainment and four-legged activities. BarkFest is an on-leash event with free entry for humans and dogs.
Choir open day and auditions
Woden Valley Youth Choir will hold an open day on Tuesday 18 February. Auditions will follow, for those interested on Saturday 22 February. There are vacancies in all choirs although quite limited places in the high school/university age treble voice choir. Learn to run
Want to get fit for 2020? Want to run your first fun run? The YMCA Canberra Runners Club has the program for you. Training is on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday mornings from the entrance to Weston Park in Yarralumla. This training group is suitable for those who would like to start running, as well as developing runners, former runners, and runners wanting to train with a group. Free money management course
CAP Australia’s next free budgeting and money management courses are on Saturday 22 February and 7 March 9.15am at Tuggeranong Baptist Church, 1st Floor, 23 Garrett Street, Wanniassa. Trivia night

Clothing sale
A clothing sale will be held at St Ninian’s Uniting Church Hall, Lyneham, on Friday 21 and Saturday 22 February 9am-1pm. There will be pre-loved clothing, linen bags and footwear. Morning tea and lunch available.
Women’s Cricket Breakfast
Tickets are now on sale to the 2020 Lord’s Taverners ACT Women’s Cricket Breakfast, featuring guest speakers Leah Poulton, Matthew Mott and Mel Jones, on Thursday 27 February at National Press Club, Barton. Cost: $90 for Lord’s Taverners members; $95 for non-members; $900 for corporate tables of 10. Funds raised will go towards the work the Lord’s Taverners does supporting local young and disadvantaged cricketers and other athletes, and Cricket ACT initiatives which benefit cricket across the Canberra region. Call for volunteers
Covenant Care Day Hospice provides physical, practical, spiritual and emotional support for people with life-limiting illnesses being cared for at home in the Belconnen area. Covenant Care operates out of Holy Covenant Anglican Church, 89 Dexter Street, Cook on Mondays 9.30am-4pm and urgently needs new volunteers. On a rostered basis, you could help with client care, kitchen duties, running activities, set-up/pack-up or driving clients to and from home. Nominate a young Canberran
Nominations for the 2020 Young Canberra Citizen of the Year are open until 2 March. The awards recognise individuals and groups of young people aged 12-25 years who have made a significant contribution through their personal endeavours, or have been actively involved in the ACT community. The awards also seek to acknowledge and celebrate significant personal achievements of individual young people. SPARK education program
SPARK, in partnership with North Belconnen Community Association, YMCA Canberra, Uniting Care Kippax, Canberra City Care and CIT, will deliver a program focusing on skills development, work experience and employment within the Early Childhood Education and Care sector. Future Proofing study
The Black Dog Institute is calling for high schools across NSW and the ACT to join a Future Proofing study to see whether smartphone apps can enhance and protect youth mental health. This five-year trial with 400 schools and up to 20,000 Year 8 students will test apps at scale, collecting sensor data from smartphones such as sleep patterns and activity levels to give researchers the clearest snapshot yet into young people’s health and wellbeing.
