GymAware is ACT Exporter of the Year

Kinetic Performance Technology (GymAware) was named the 2023 ACT Exporter of the Year and won the Advanced Technologies award at the ACT Chief Minister’s Export Awards ceremony on Monday evening.

“As the global leader of velocity-based training solutions [tracking the movement speed of an exercise with technology], GymAware is a Canberra business success story,” Chief Minister Andrew Barr said.

“The company’s products, GymAware RS and FLEX, are designed to help coaches and athletes of all levels measure and track strength training activities in the weight room. Its technology has been a crucial component of weight training for professional athletes across various sporting disciplines, helping hundreds of teams and individuals prepare for their career-defining moments on the field.”

Mr Barr congratulated the company’s founder, Evan Lawton, and his team at GymAware, “who for over 20 years have been delivering world leading sport technology and are still at the top of their game”.

“I am honoured that GymAware has been recognised as the 2023 ACT Exporter of the Year at the ACT Chief Minister’s Export Awards,” Mr Lawton said. “As the founder of GymAware and a passionate advocate for advancing sports technology, this award holds a special place in my heart. GymAware has been a labour of love, and it’s rewarding to see our commitment to excellence being acknowledged in such a meaningful way by our own community in Canberra.

“From the outset, GymAware has aimed for the stars. Our mission has been to lead global velocity-based training solutions, and this award reaffirms we’re on the right track. Notably, almost 90% of our sales are now exports, with strong footholds in key markets like the USA [80 per cent], UK [10 per cent], France and China [6 per cent]. Receiving the Advanced Technology category award highlights our dedication to innovation in sports tech. Our flagship products, GymAware RS and FLEX, result from decades of innovation and hard work. They empower a diverse user base, including coaches and athletes by providing accurate measurements and tracking for training in the weight room or performance facilities.

“We’re privileged to contribute to the success of professional athletes across various disciplines. I’m especially proud that GymAware systems are now an integral part of weight rooms in two-thirds of all professional sporting teams in the USA.”

GymAware’s systems are also used in all teams in élite Australian leagues like the NRL and Super Rugby, as well as esteemed international teams, such as the New Zealand All Blacks, Mr Barr said.

“We’re also honoured to support elite Australian leagues teams and facilitate their success behind the scenes in their gyms,” Mr Lawton said.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate all the remarkable companies recognised at the awards ceremony. It is great to be among the greats!”

GymAware was awarded a trophy designed by local glass artist Annette Blair. This was the first time this prestigious trophy had been designed as a unique piece, Mr Barr said.
