Man charged following car jacking, stabbing in Belconnen

A 26-year-old man has been charged with eight offences following an alleged car jacking in which a woman was stabbed in Belconnen on Sunday 24 September.

About 11.30am yesterday, ACT Policing responded to reports of an aggravated robbery in the multi-storey car park of a Belconnen shopping centre.   

Police will allege a 26-year-old man attacked a woman with a knife before stealing a white Mazda 4WD utility. During the altercation, the woman suffered a single stab wound to the arm, and was transported to hospital.

The stolen vehicle was sighted by police a short time later in Braddon, and the man was arrested about 11.50am in Ainslie following a short foot pursuit.  

The man was charged with aggravated robbery, intentionally wound a person, knife possession, two counts of failing to stop for police, two counts of dangerous driving and drive while disqualified. He is expected to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court today, Monday 25 September.
