ACT Greens MLA Johnathan Davis stood down over underage sex allegations

ACT Greens member for Brindabella Johnathan Davis has been stood down indefinitely amid reports of serious sexual misconduct.

Police are investigating allegations of “possible sexual interactions with young people” against Davis. Reports suggest Davis had sex with one underage person (aged 15) and a relationship with another teen (aged 17).

ACT Greens leader and Attorney-General Shane Rattenbury received the “extremely serious complaints” about Mr Davis’s conduct earlier this week.

“A complaint was brought to my attention at the beginning of this week, with another following shortly after,” Mr Rattenbury said in a statement.

“I immediately asked a member of my senior staff to do an initial review to establish the appropriate next steps.

“He will be stood down indefinitely at this time.

“My office at this point has not seen any information or evidence of illegal activity, nonetheless we are aware of the serious nature of the allegations and we have referred the information we do have to ACT Policing.”

In a joint statement, Chief Minister Andrew Barr and Acting Chief Minister Yvette Berry called for Mr Davis to resign from his position.

“These are very serious allegations against a sitting MLA, and do impact his ability to undertake his role,” they said.

“The best path would be to accept what we understand to be the position of the ACT Greens party leadership, and resign his position in the Assembly.

“We understand the matter is being referred to police, and expect a full investigation to take place.

“We have asked the ACT Greens to ensure support is provided to the individuals who have made these matters public.

“Other support services are available to members of the community who are distressed by this reporting.”
