Have you heard? Open Garden, GIVIT seeking pyjamas, and more

Open Garden

An invitation to view ‘Villa Zarlenga,’ a garden which has been lovingly designed and created in an Italianate style, reusing found objects or those given to complement the garden. Teresa’s garden features 31 fruit trees, a 50m grapevine, a prolific kitchen garden, a water feature known as The Lagoons, and three friendly laying hens. Open Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 November 10am-4pm, 50 Investigator Street, Red Hill. Entry donation: $10. All proceeds to The Canberra Blind Society.

GIVIT donation of the week: Pyjamas

GIVIT is working with a non-profit organisation in the ACT that offers support and services for disadvantaged children, adolescents and their families. They are currently supporting a family with a teenage daughter who requires cancer surgery interstate. This 16-year-old girl will be in the hospital for at least two weeks following surgery and needs pyjamas and toiletries. The family is experiencing financial hardship and could use all the help they can get. Donations will mean a lot to this family and help them through this difficult period. Generous Canberrans can fund the purchase of new pyjamas with 100% of money received by GIVIT used to purchase pyjamas. Kippax Marketplace and Scone-Off

Kippax Uniting Church will hold its last 2023 monthly Marketplace on Saturday 18 November 9am-1pm, with individual stallholders, a cake stall, barbecue, lots of pre-loved items including Christmas things. There will be a scone baking competition involving some well-known Canberra identities, and Devonshire Teas and scones for sale (search Canberra Scone-Off).

Overeaters Anonymous (OA)

Red Dove preloved

Red Dove preloved clothing last for the year and an auditorium full of bargains. Thursday 23 to Saturday 25 November 9am-1pm at Tuggeranong Uniting, Church Comrie Street Wanniassa. Easy parking, new summer stock for women, men and kids, linen, books and bric-a-brac. Indigenous Art Exhibition

St Paul’s Ginninderra Anglican Church, Curley Street, Spence, is hosting an Indigenous Art Exhibition, Art From Australia, on Saturday 25 November 10am-5pm featuring artworks by well-known artists Merle Gorey, Nyrulla Possum Nampintjimpa, and Naomi Yunupingu, and many others. There is a talk, ‘Art of First Australians’ at 1pm. Refreshments will be available.

Southfest Chisholm Community Day

Join Good Shepherd Community Church, cnr Hambidge and Proctor Street, Chisholm on Saturday 25 November 8am-12pm for a fun community morning including a garage sale, local stall holders, cake stall, Devonshire tea, sausage sizzle and more.  

VIEW Club

Canberra Community Chorale

Canberra Community Chorale will perform Requiem by Gabriel Fauré at Wesley Uniting Church, Forrest on Saturday 2 December 5pm.The concert, In Paradisum, will also include Last Verses, settings for choir and string ensemble of the final poems of D.H. Lawrence, Robert Herrick, Elinor Wylie, Ralph Waldo Emerson and Thomas Hardy by the Chorale’s musical director Dan Walker. Tickets: $40, $35 concession, $20 student, under 15 years free, available from Trybooking. Light refreshments included. The chorale is a non-auditioned choir which rehearses at lunchtime on Fridays.
