Looping around Canberra’s culture

A new shuttle bus service is making it easier to travel between Canberra’s cultural attractions and places of interest.

The Culture Loop shuttle bus, which started on 20 December, is a joint six-month pilot venture among 10 organisations. It will run seven days a week from 9am to 5pm with nine conveniently situated stops, and is expected to cost about $150,000 over the six-months, shared between various organisations.

Dr Mathew Trinca, Director of the National Museum of Australia (NMA), which has led the Culture Loop initiative, said it was encouraging to see institutions working together to promote Canberra.

“We are delighted to be at the forefront of this unprecedented collaboration between the cultural institutions and other organisations to improve the visitor experience in Canberra,’ Dr Trinca said.

The bus route will include stops at the NMA, National Film and Sound Archive (NFSA), Regatta Point – home to the NCA’s National Capital Exhibition and VisitCanberra’s Canberra and Region Visitor Centre, National Library of Australia (NLA), Questacon, Museum of Australian Democracy (MoAD) at Old Parliament House, Australian Parliament House (APH), Canberra Museum and Gallery (CMAG), and the Canberra Centre.

David Marshall, chair of the Canberra Region Tourism Leaders Forum, said: “This Culture Loop shuttle bus will enable visitors to travel between most of the national institutions with ease, and without cost. It is a wonderful initiative which will be wholeheartedly welcomed by many visitors to the National Capital wishing to explore our national icons.”

Visitors can park once and ride the shuttle to their favourite venues, and with stops at West Basin and the Canberra Centre, it encourages people to consider alternative parking options when planning their trips.

The Culture Loop service will be provided by Capital Touring Services Pty Ltd, trading as Redbus.

The bus has a seating capacity of 39 people (plus 22 standing) with wheelchair access, air conditioning, front and centre double doors, and accessibility for people using mobility aids.
