New website for ACT government shopfront Access Canberra

Access Canberra, the ACT Government shopfront, has a new website that went live at the end of October. The government says the website makes it easier for Canberrans to access information and digital services online.

“Access Canberra is the front door for many Canberrans looking to engage and interact with the ACT Government and its many services,” Tara Cheyne, ACT Minister for Business and Better Regulation, said.

“With more than 15 million views and 8 million digital transactions over the last year, Access Canberra is the government’s most visited website.

“By updating the website and increasing web accessibility, we’re ensuring that all visitors, regardless of ability, have a seamless experience.”

The website looks different now with a new design. Improved search features make it easier to find information. All the content has been rewritten in plain English, and the number of pages on the website have been reduced by 90 per cent.

“This will make it easier for people to find what they are looking for, while improving the website’s search and navigation functionality,” Ms Cheyne said.

These changes were based on research, insights, and testing, working with user groups.

The ACT Government tested how easy it was for people with vision impairments to use the new website, and staff at the Access Canberra contact centre tested the website in real time.

“We are committed to making sure that the new Access Canberra website meets the needs of Canberrans,” Ms Cheyne said.

More than 76,000 users have viewed the updated website more than 307,000 times since it launched last month.

Users can provide feedback using the feedback form located at the bottom of every page.

“This feedback is welcome as Access Canberra will continue to refine and improve the site based on user feedback and experience in the months to come,” Ms Cheyne said.

Visit the website and provide your feedback at www.accesscanberra.act.gov.au.
