Have your say on Canberra’s new playgrounds

The ACT Government is calling on Canberrans to help design three new nature play spaces that will be built in the City, Woden and Farrer.

ACT Minister for City Services, Chris Steel, said this process of co-design would ensure the community have a chance to be involved in creating great new play spaces in their own suburbs.

“The new nature play spaces will be built in Eddison Park in Woden, Glebe Park in the City and a park in Farrer near the shops. They will be a welcome addition to Canberra’s already extensive playground network,” Minister Steel said.

“Natural play spaces provide creative and imaginative play experiences, using elements from the landscape, such as logs and rocks, to encourage children to climb, jump and explore. With nature play the possibilities can be much more flexible than traditional play equipment, and we want to know what you think should be in your suburb.

“There are lots of ways you can get involved in the design of these new play spaces, including a number of pop-up design sessions in the parks …, an online survey, and co-design workshops in February. We will also be working directly with local schools, childcare centres, youth groups and special needs schools through a series of targeted co-design sessions.”

The ideas and design suggestions collected through the engagement process will be used to create three final designs to be built.

The pop-up sessions for Glebe Park and Farrer were held in mid-December. The pop-up session for Eddison Park will be held on Sunday 13 January 8-10am at the Southside Farmer’s Market, Canberra College.

The online survey will be open until Friday 15 February.
