Life after The Bachelor

Canberra’s very own The Bachelor star, and our cover model for this week, Emily Dibden says she was just “lucky to be chosen” for the show.

Appearing on The Bachelor’s most reason season, alongside ‘Honey Badger’ Nick Cummins, Emily says the experience was a “rollercoaster of emotions”.

“I knew it was going to be a challenge, but not as much as it was,” Emily tells Canberra Daily. “It was a whirlwind experience. I don’t think you can ever be prepared for it.”

She says she “learnt a lot” about herself, and has come out the other side of the experience “a much stronger, better person”.

While she says her time in the ‘Bachie’ mansion had difficult moments, she doesn’t regret the experience.

“The best thing that came from it was meeting the other, beautiful girls. All you’ve got [when you’re filming the show] are those girls there.”

She says she decided to apply for The Bachelor because she “wanted to try something different”.

“I tried to find someone in Canberra and I put myself out there,” she says. “I wanted to find a nice guy.

“I tried to have as much fun as I could [on The Bachelor].”

Emily says when she arrived and met Nick Cummins; she thought “if we don’t end up clicking at least we’ll have a lot of fun”.

Despite not ‘winning’ Nick’s heart, Emily says she doesn’t regret going on the show at all. While she wouldn’t go on The Bachelor again, she hasn’t been turned off reality TV for good though.

For now, Emily says she is content living life at home in Canberra. She’s taking it easy for now, working for her dad in his arboriculture (or tree surgery) business.

“I’ve just been trying to enjoy the aftermath of the experience,” she says. “I’m just enjoying being back home. I really love working with Dad.

“I really love doing what I do in Canberra … I really love it,” the born and bred Canberran says.

“People underestimate how beautiful it is … It’s stunning. There are so many amazing places. I love the easy lifestyle.”
