Tara Cheyne MLA has announced her engagement to partner, James, in a Facebook post over the weekend.

The local member for Ginninderra posted a photo of the couple with a shiny new ring on her left hand.

The proposal came during a Gretta Ray concert at La La La’s in Wollongong on Friday night, 22 March, when the performer invited James on stage and he proposed to Ms Cheyne.

“So many of Gretta Ray’s songs tell the story of our relationship. Last night I was overjoyed to see her live for the first time,” Ms Cheyne’s post read.

“I wasn’t sure life could be any better in that moment. As it turns out, James had spent several weeks plotting with her. As she finished Cherish – the song that cemented me as a forever fan – and explained its meaning, she invited James on stage…

“We’re getting married.”
