Canberra Wheelchair Tennis Open
Japan’s men’s player Yusuke Nishimura, Queensland woman Janine Watson and Victorian junior Finn Broadbent all claimed singles titles at the Canberra Wheelchair Tennis Open on Sunday 30 September at Canberra Tennis Centre, Lyneham. Rachel Sirr from People with Disabilities ACT said the event was a great way to highlight the sport in Canberra. “Wheelchair tennis is a fast moving, exciting and elite sport and shows how people with a disability can be elite world-class sportspeople and inspire others.”
Country Rugby League Women’s 9’s
Eight additional CRL Women’s 9’s competitions will be taking place across regional NSW later this year. The 2018/19 CRL Women’s 9’s are anticipated to be the largest on record with the expansion coming on the back of recent participation statistics revealing an annual increase of 28% in female participation across Country Rugby League.

Bathurst 1000
Canberra Porsche racer, Cameron Hill, will use the highest-profile event on his racing calendar, the Bathurst 1000, on 4-7 October, to promote Lifeline Canberra’s Mental Health Month October campaign. Hill’s Porsche will display a special livery at Bathurst to promote Mental Health Month October.
Netball
SolarHub, a leader in the solar energy industry, have signed on for another three years of naming rights sponsorship with Netball ACT. The announcement follows a successful initial three-year partnership between the two organisations.
Raiders
Young guns Nick Cotric and Emre Guler have been named in the Junior Kangaroos representative side. The squad was announced earlier this week ahead of the match against the Junior Kiwis at Mt Smart Stadium, Auckland on Saturday 13 October. Nineteen-year-old Cotric was also named in the Prime Minister’s XIII for their fixture against the Papua New Guinea Prime Minister’s XIII, to be played on Saturday 6 October in Port Moresby, PNG.
Brumbies
The Brumbies have signed 86-test Wallaby prop James Slipper on a two-year deal. Slipper fell out of flavour with his previous side, the Queensland Reds, after a few off-field indiscretions, but is hopeful a fresh start in Canberra can reenergise his career. He will add depth to the Brumbies healthy front row stocks.
