Man charged over Wagga stabbing, shooting

A second man has been charged after a violent confrontation with police in Wagga Wagga, following a stabbing and shooting in the NSW Riverina town  last week.

Officers were called to a Wagga Wagga park about 12.30pm on Thursday after reports of a shooting and were told a 42-year-old man, had been stabbed with a pair of scissors by a 33-year-old man before being shot by a third man who fled.

The 33-year-old was arrested early on Friday after a 12-hour police operation to seize him from an island in the nearby Murrumbidgee River.

He was charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and remains before the courts, police said.

Late on Sunday, police charged a 35-year-old man in relation to the park incident after confronting him at a hotel in Wagga Wagga on Saturday.

“The man allegedly refused to leave the room and a police operation ensued, involving local police with the assistance of specialist police including Tactical Operations Unit, and Police Negotiators,” police said in a statement.

“About 10pm, police entered the room and deployed a Taser to arrest a 35-year-old man after he allegedly produced a knife.”

The man was later charged with shoot at with intent to murder, firearm offences and breach of bail. 

He is due to appear in Wagga Wagga Local Court on Monday.
