A woman has been freed from the wreckage following a two-vehicle crash that temporarily closed the Barton Highway in both directions.

The highway remains closed to southbound traffic at Murrumbateman, near Longrail Gully Road, according to Live Traffic NSW.

Emergency services, Transport for NSW, and a tow truck were called to the scene, where the crash caused significant disruption.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area and delay any non-essential travel. For unavoidable journeys, Live Traffic NSW recommends all vehicles, including B-doubles, use the Hume Highway and Federal Highway as alternative routes.
