Ring in the Year of the Snake with a vibrant Lunar New Year street party on Woolley Street, Dickson, on Saturday 1 February. Hosted by the City Renewal Authority, this free, family-friendly event will celebrate community, culture, and tradition in a spectacular way.
This yearโs festivities are bigger than ever, with the event space expanding to welcome more visitors and stallholders. With over 11,000 attendees expected, Woolley Street will come alive with 12 hours of entertainment across two stages.
Be mesmerised by performances from Prosperous Mountain Lion and Dragon Dance, the Federation of Chinese Associations ACT, K-Pop dancers, roving Zodiac performers, and Kung Fu demonstrations. Families can also enjoy a dedicated kidsโ area, featuring dance, balloon, and calligraphy workshops throughout the day.
A highlight of this yearโs celebrations is a stunning timber snake sculpture and moon gate, standing nearly three metres tall in the newly refurbished Woolley Street central plaza. Designed by Canberraโs KOITOYA studio and crafted from salvaged wood, this artwork is a must-see.
Minister for Multicultural Affairs, Michael Pettersson, highlighted the significance of Canberraโs Lunar New Year celebrations.
“Canberra will welcome the Year of the Snake with a vibrant street party of delicious food, music, culture and tradition,” he said. “There will be something for everyone in Dickson, including the chance to discover new experiences and immerse in the rich multiculturalism of our local community.โ
โAs a free and low-cost activity, the event encourages people to shop, eat, get out and about, and enjoy time with friends and family in a safe and festive atmosphere.โ
