150 people now in self-quarantine in ACT; no new cases

More than 150 people are now in self-quarantine in the ACT after attending the Batemans Bay Soldier Club on 13, 15-17 July, as the ACT again records no new cases of COVID-19 in the Territory in the past 24 hours. Only one active case remains in the ACT and there are no COVID-19 patients in Canberra hospitals.

ACT Chief Health Officer Dr Kerryn Coleman thanked everyone who has identified themselves to ACT Health after attending the Batemans Bay Soldiers Club and who is now in self-quarantine.

“Anyone who attended the Batemans Bay Soldiers Club on Monday 13 July and Wednesday 15 July through to Friday 17 July is legally required to self-quarantine immediately for 14 days from the date of their visit. With more than 150 people now in self-quarantine after attending the Soldiers Club, I want to thank them for doing the right thing,” she said.

“It’s a testament to the Canberra community’s strength and determination to stop any outbreak of COVID-19 here in the ACT and to not see a resurgence in cases.

“Again, if you have been at any of the identified NSW venues included in a Public Health Direction – the Batemans Bay Soldiers Club, Crossroads Hotel in Casula, Planet Fitness in Casula or Picton Hotel in Picton – you must self-quarantine for 14 days and let ACT Health know you are in quarantine.”

Dr Coleman also reminded everyone to stay home if they are unwell.

“We are now in the midst of winter, with more people likely to come down with a cold. You may think it’s just a cold, but you should stay home if you are unwell. Don’t be a hero. Don’t go to work or to the shops. Go and get tested.

“We also expect all workplaces to encourage their employees to stay home if they are unwell.”

Health advice on NSW

A Public Health Direction remains in place for a number of affected locations in NSW. This Direction legally requires anyone who has been in some of the affected locations identified by NSW Health to self-quarantine for 14 days from the date they were there, even if they do not have any symptoms.

At this time, these locations are:

  1. Batemans Bay Soldiers Club – Monday 13 July, Wednesday 15 July to Friday 17 July
  2. Crossroads Hotel in Casula – between Friday 3 July to Friday 10 July
  3. Planet Fitness in Casula – between Saturday 4 July and Friday 10 July
  4. Picton Hotel in Picton – on Saturday 4 July, Sunday 5 July, Thursday 9 July or Friday 10 July

People who visited these locations on the specified dates are asked to get in contact with ACT Health through the COVID-19 Helpline on (02) 6207 7244 so that they can support individuals through their quarantine. These people are also encouraged to get tested for COVID-19 – even if they have no symptoms.

This Public Health Direction is available on the ACT COVID19 website.

In addition to the above legal direction, the ACT Government also strongly advises anyone who has visited locations identified by NSW Health to follow the advice being provided by the NSW authorities. The situation is rapidly evolving, so keep up to date the latest NSW Health Advice.

ACT residents are reminded not to travel to areas where COVID-19 outbreaks are occurring in NSW.

The existing advice regarding Victoria remains in place – if you have been to Victoria within the past 14 days you must notify ACT Health before returning to the ACT.
