ACT Health has issued new advice for health care and aged care workers in relation to South Western Sydney saying people who work in high-risk settings, and who have recently visited the NSW Local Government Areas of Fairfield, Campbelltown and Liverpool, should not attend work for a period of 14 days after leaving these regions.
The advice extends to all staff, volunteers and visitors in high-risk settings, specifically hospitals, residential aged care facilities, correctional facilities and residential accommodation facilities that support people who require frequent, close personal care and who are vulnerable to severe disease.
These workers, volunteers and visitors are asked to be alert for COVID-19 symptoms such as a fever and dry cough, and if symptoms develop, to immediately self-isolate at home and arrange to get tested.
People who work in other health settings, such as General Practitioners and other community health practitioners, can continue to deliver services. However, they should remain vigilant, and if symptoms develop, should self-isolate and get tested.
ACT Health is continuing to monitor the situation in South Western Sydney and will provide further advice to the Canberra community as needed.
The advice comes as the ACT has had no new cases of coronavirus for two weeks, the last new case was recorded on Friday 10 July.
The ACT’s total cases remains at 113 with one active case and no COVID-19 patients in Canberra hospitals. The ACT death toll remains at three.
The number of negative tests in the ACT is now 46,102.
General advice for people travelling from NSW hotspots
Anyone who has been in one of the affected locations identified by NSW Health is under a legal directive to self-quarantine for 14 days from the date they were there, even if they do not have any symptoms.
ACT Health also reminds Canberrans that if you visited Batemans Bay Soldiers Club on Monday 13 July and Wednesday 15 July through to Friday 17 July you are legally required to self-quarantine immediately for 14 days from the date of your visit.
They also strongly recommend you get tested for COVID-19 and contact ACT Health for advice so you can be supported in your quarantine.
