UC drive-in cinema returns for all

The University of Canberra (UC) drive-in cinema is set to return to the campus, following the success of the event during O-Week.

This time, the wider community is invited to enjoy a night at the drive-in, with the choice between four different screenings from Thursday 27 to Saturday 29 August.

UC eXperience (UCX) team director, Sarah Jennett said the university was looking forward to welcoming a wider audience to these events.

“We are excited to be able to offer the Canberra community a socially-distanced event that can still bring people together during these tough times,” she said.

“We have space for up to 70 cars which means a great viewing angle for everybody and we will have food and drinks available for purchase. This will be a great day or night out for the whole family.”

Prospective customers will have a choice between The Hangover, Easy A or The Hunger Games which all kick off from 6.30pm nightly, or The Lego Movie which starts at 1.30pm on the Saturday.

Tickets are $45 per car for the general public, or $30 per car for students, and guests will be able to purchase a range of drinks and snacks on the day.

Ms Jennett said she hoped the film choices would appeal to a large crowd.

“We wanted to choose movies that would appeal to a broad section of the community. The films all offer something different or cater to a different audience,” she said.

The O-Week event drew in a crowd of about 186 attendees at each of the two screenings that were held.

The LED screen promises a clear picture and smooth-running event which can function in slightly inclement weather.

Should the weather interfere with the viewing experience for guests, the event will be cancelled at the earliest notice and be rescheduled if possible. Refunds will be issued to ticket holders if this is not suitable.

Tickets are now on sale, and can be purchased online.
