A collaboration has formed between Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) ACT and community development program, Mingle, which will promote safety within the Molonglo Valley.
Almost two dozen NHW signs are being erected in the suburbs of Coombs and Wright from this week, to alert residents that the community organisation is active in the area.
NHW is a crime prevention program, working closely with Crime Stoppers and ACT Policing to encourage residents to keep a watchful eye and reduce crime in suburban areas.
NHW ACT president Laurie Blackall congratulated the local NHW team in the area, as well as Mingle for the community focused collaboration.
“The Mingle community development program works to build vibrant and sustainable communities within new estates in the ACT. As new residents build a new life in a new estate, safety is one of the key priorities,” he said.
“Both Neighbourhood Watch and Mingle programs have partnered to strengthen crime prevention for residents and families in their local environment.”
Mingle is an ACT Government initiative, facilitated by the Suburban Land Management Agency, which aims to identify community needs and interests, and to encourage neighbours to know one another.
Member for Murrumbidgee Bec Cody backed the collaboration, saying safety should be a top priority for all residents.
“Suburban Land Agency’s Mingle community development program has teamed up with Neighbourhood Watch to focus on safety for all those in Molonglo Valley,” she said.
“Everyone deserves to live in a safe environment and this initiative is a fantastic step towards supporting the community.
“I am pleased that such an important initiative is being actioned in Wright and Coombs where personal safety is at the centrepiece.”
