Verity Lane Market food hall to open tomorrow

Canberra’s latest foodie venture is (almost) here! Verity Lane Market, a chef-driven food hall, will open in the Sydney Building tomorrow, 22 October, serving up gastronomic delights from kitchens helmed by some of Canberra’s best.

The 20th Century-inspired Verity Bar will be serving up wines, craft beers and signature cocktails.

The Market will initially be home to three kitchens: Project Enoki, with a menu inspired by Asian flavours from Chairman & Yip’s Gerald Ong; Ramen Daddy, where locals Eddy Tsai and John Leverink have combined French and Japanese cuisines for a modern ramen menu; and Pizza Artigiana, where Silvio Miceli will serve up traditional Italian pizzas.

To wash it down, why not try a Verity Martini? Leading this month’s cocktail list from in-house watering hole, Verity Bar, the signature drink is “a delicious blend of rhubarb vermouth, vodka, passion fruit served dangerously short”, according to Verity Bar’s cocktail connoisseur Benito Drovandi.

Verity Bar will be slinging wines, spirits, craft beers and cocktails created by Benito in a 20th Century-inspired setting, to be enjoyed with family and friends while perusing the available food options.

Verity Lane Market has been designed by Mather Architecture, and is looking to revitalise the Civic precinct and be a “catalyst of laneway culture in Canberra”, with more plans for food and drink outlets in the works.

The plan is for Verity Lane Market to be the first part of a larger food precinct for the corner of Sydney Building, a place which was once home to iconic Canberra nightlife venues such as the Private Bin, Meche and North Bar.

“We have a number of exciting vendors ready to move into our remaining three kitchens and have planned for some unique and exciting pop-ups to open before the end of the year,” said Phillip Keir, the entrepreneur behind Verity Lane Market and the previous Australian publisher of Rolling Stone Magazine.

“We’ve also strategically set up a Test Kitchen to allow for interested chefs to trial new concepts before committing to a kitchen,” he said.

Verity Lane Market will be open Thursday-Saturday from 5pm.
