In Andrew Braddock, Yerrabi has a climate warrior

New ACT Greens MLA Andrew Braddock may be a Brisbanite by birth, but love made him a Canberran.

After a brief stint overseas, Andrew made his way to Canberra in 2002, married the love of this life and became a suburban dad to twins girls, now seven-years-old.

Andrew and his wife are raising their family in Gungahlin, where he has been involved in the community council and his local primary school board.

The family man said he got involved in politics because when his daughters ask him what he did about climate change, he wants his answer to make them proud.

Andrew has more than motivation behind his climate chops. He is an environmental engineer and a public servant and wants us to do climate “better”.

As the parliamentary agreement between Labor and Greens unfolds, he is backing transport emissions, electric vehicle uptake, and the transition from gas as the solid green issues he wants to fight for, and said he’s going to push as hard as he can.

While in the ACT Legislative Assembly, Andrew will be all for the people of Yerrabi, promising not to be a “party hack”.

He wants to increase tree planting and green spaces in northern suburbs to help people “live in comfort”. And be a champion for well-balanced community planning.

Andrew said it took some time to get over the initial shock and excitement of his election victory.

But he has tried to take the opportunity to enjoy the recognition of all the hard work during the election and now, he is ready to take on the challenge of the next four years!
