Upcoming Self-Care Funday an opportunity to relax, connect

Despite the easing of restrictions, the ripple-effect of COVID-19 in Australia has worsened mental health in local communities, causing people to feel anxious, depressed and uncertain and making self-care and support networks more important.

In response, LGBTIQ+ charity Diversity ACT Community Services is hosting a Self-Care Funday at its hub in Kambah on Sunday 15 November and registrations close tomorrow, Friday 13 November.

Diversity ACT president Shay-Leigh Willis said she hoped to encourage everyone in the Canberra community to look after their mental health and wellbeing.

“We would love to give you a chance to spend a few hours doing just that at our Self-Care Funday,” Shay-Leigh said.

“COVID-19 has impacted on everyone in our community and the mental health impacts may continue even after there is a vaccine.”

The Funday will involve creative workshops in yoga, art, writing and African drumming, live entertainment, lunch and light refreshments, and massages for a small fee.

In addition to learning something new, the self-care event will provide the opportunity to make new friends and connections.

Diversity ACT is a community-based registered charity powered by volunteers, offering a range of services to the LGBTIQ+ community in the region.

From a service hub in Kambah, the charity offers a social worker, support networks, groups and community resources.
