GIVIT donation of the week: sporting equipment
Imagine losing everything in the Black Summer bushfires only to have everything lost once again. Unfortunately, this is reality for one teenage boy, part of a family of six with a widowed mother who lost their home and all possessions in the 2019/2020 fires. Through the recovery process the family received a pod for the mother and younger children to live while the teenage boy was living in a cabin on the bush block. To keep warm in a cold snap (and this location gets very cold) he had a small fire going near his cabin. He went to the pod to do his washing, and while doing this, the fire got out of control and burnt down the cabin, despite his efforts to extinguish it. He and his family were just getting back on their feet. The black summer bushfires caused severe psychological harm to all of them, but to him in particular. He had been donated some fitness equipment, all of which was lost in the cabin fire, as well as all his belongings and beloved bicycle. To receive replacement gym equipment would mean the world to him. The organisation supporting this family is asking for donations of any safe, good quality equipment such as a home gym, boxing equipment, bench press and or a 28” bicycle. Donations can be delivered or posted to the organisation. To donate, visit: givit.org.au/donate-items, search by category “Sports Equipment”, ACT, 100km+ range. After you pledge the item, you will be contacted by the relevant organisation to arrange pick-up, post or drop-off.
